SOUTHPORT, MAINE (January 8, 2015)— More than 250 people from around the world applied for the dream jobs: Keepers for the Inn at Cuckolds Lighthouse. Captain Mark Zinkiewicz, Heather Graham, and Captain Leslie Cooke captured these coveted positions, and will begin their service as Keepers in the 2015 season. To earn these volunteer positions, candidates demonstrated extensive nautical experience, superb culinary skills, and embraced a hospitality and service ethic.
Resident Keeper Mark Zinkiewicz, is a New York native, world traveler, and professional musician who has performed with BJ Thomas, Jackson Brown, and others. Mark holds a 100 ton Masters License, buys and restores antique boats, and has spent nearly 1,000 days at sea.
Resident Keeper Heather Graham, former publisher of Focus Magazine of Lake County, Fl., co-hosts a weekly radio program, and serves on numerous civic and nonprofit boards. She has participated in the start-up of a new boutique hotel, served as Marketing and Events Coordinator for 8 downtown restaurants, and opened her own popular wine bar. Heather is a skilled pastry chef, caterer, and events planner.
Mark and Heather jumped at the chance to fulfill their dream of operating an inn, where they could put their love of cooking and entertaining to work. “To get that opportunity in a maritime community would truly be our greatest dream,” the couple said in their letter of inquiry.
Captain and Relief Keeper, Leslie Cooke, joined the team in 2015. Captain Leslie holds her US Coast Guard 100-ton Masters license, and has 10 years in the professional boating industry running private charters, and serving in a variety of shipboard duties. She spent 18 years living aboard a 42-foot catamaran in the Bahamas, Turks & Caicos, the US Virgin Islands, and the British Virgin Islands. She has run water taxis in Ft. Lauderdale and sailing excursions in Newport, Rhode Island. Through her nautical career, Leslie has worn many hats, running full- and half-day excursions, sunset sails, private charters, snorkeling trips and diving for a large scale watersports company and dive shop. Leslie hit the ground (or, should we say, the water) running, and has been an invaluable and highly enthusiastic team member for the past several weeks. If you see her coming and going from Newagen Harbor, or hosting sunset cruises for Inn At Cuckolds Lighthouse guests, give her a friendly shout! She’s delighted to be onboard, and eager to meet our neighbors and friends.
