Rates, Policies & FAQs

Deposit and Cancellation Policies

  • To secure a reservation, we require a full, non-refundable deposit due to the special nature of the lodging experience. If your plans change and you cancel your reservation at least six weeks prior to your arrival date, 75% of your deposit will be refunded. If you cancel more than three weeks in advance of check-in, 50% of your deposit will be refunded. Reservation cancellations fewer than 3 weeks in advance of scheduled arrival are non-refundable.
  • Infrequently, weather and seas may prohibit safe crossing, requiring cancellations on short notice.  If this occurs, we will either help you re-book for another date or help find alternative shore-side lodging. The island may not be accessible in adverse winds and/or tides. In the event your stay is cancelled due to dangerous weather conditions, your deposit is fully refunded.
  • If you get stranded at the lighthouse because of weather?  Well, you get a FREE night at the lighthouse, of course! You may call your boss and explain why you cannot get to work!  It’s a great memory and will become an often retold legend!

Scary Warning

Maine’s coast is rugged, and The Cuckolds is a rugged place. The ocean can be quite rough and the tides are big, rising 10-13 feet twice a day. Be aware of this when walking on the rocks. A peaceful moment could turn into a drench of spray or worse! Take caution against wandering a little too close to incoming surf. Waves have been known to carry off some pretty good sized people in this part of Maine!

Safety & Access.  All visitors are required to sign waivers before boarding our launch or stepping ashore at the Cuckolds.  This rugged island is not ADA accessible. If you need a cane, walker, or wheelchair, or have balance or sure-footedness issues, we recommend that you access Cuckolds information online and/or by visiting off-island exhibits that are currently under development. For safety purposes, children under 12 are not permitted on the island. Day visitors age 12-18 must be accompanied by an adult.  Children under 18 are not permitted as overnight guests.  All visitors must sign our “scary warning” waiver.
